RealityCheck AI (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how the RealityCheck AI Chrome Extension (the “Extension”) collects, uses, and safeguards your data when you use the extension.

By installing or using the Extension, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

🔒 Information We Collect

The RealityCheck AI Extension is designed to operate with minimal data collection. We do not collect personally identifiable information unless explicitly authorized by the user. The following data types may be accessed or stored:

1. Local Data (Stored in Browser)

Scan history (text snippets, time stamps)

Plugin settings and preferences (language, theme, thresholds)

Saved scan results for export (if user initiates export)

This data is stored locally on your device using the browser’s storage API and is never transmitted to external servers unless cloud sync is explicitly enabled.

2. Optional Google Identity Integration

If you opt in to enable cloud sync or future personalization features, the Extension may request your Google account email address through OAuth 2.0. This email is used solely for:

Syncing settings and history across devices

Future subscription and account management features

We do not share or sell your email or personal data.

⚙️ Permissions Justification

The following Chrome permissions are required for the Extension to function:

Used to save your preferences and scan history locally in the browser.

host_permissions (<all_urls>)

Required to allow the plugin to scan any webpage content upon user request. The plugin never runs in the background without your interaction.

🚫 What We Don't Do

❌ We do not track your browsing behavior.

❌ We do not collect or sell your personal data.

❌ We do not inject advertisements or modify websites.

❌ We do not analyze content unless you explicitly activate the scan.

🌐 Data Sharing

We do not share any data with third parties. Data remains:

Local to your browser, unless you opt-in for cloud features.

Protected via Google’s OAuth system when identity features are used.

🔐 Data Security

All settings and data saved locally are managed through the Chrome Extension storage API. When cloud features are enabled, all data transmitted is encrypted via HTTPS and protected through your Google account credentials.

👤 User Controls

You are in control of the Extension. You may:

Delete scan history at any time

Adjust thresholds, language, theme, and settings

Disable or remove the extension entirely from Chrome

If you reside in the EU or California, you may request:

Access to any data you’ve shared with us

Deletion of your cloud-based scan records (if synced)

Revocation of access to your identity
